A four-week series of Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TSY) will be held at the Upper Merion Community Center on Tuesdays, 2/7/17-2/28/17 with one-hour classes beginning at 7PM.
TSY is a gentle, all-levels class that uses yoga forms as opportunities to notice what we feel in our bodies and to practice making choices about what to do with our bodies. Through yoga we can experiment with breathing, moving, strengthening, stretching and resting. Classes are set up so that students are in control over what they are doing with their body at all times and the teacher is there to provide safe, professional guidance and to help students focus on particular dynamics (what muscles they are using, what it feels like to have their feet on the ground, what it feels like to breathe, etc.).
Participants will not have to talk to other participants, making this class more comfortable for those individuals who find it difficult to be in groups. This presentation of yoga is not religious. There will be no hands-on, physical assists in these classes. Please wear clothing appropriate for physical activity and bring a mat.
